When creating rooms with ambiance, it’s important to include what we like to call “task” lighting in places where it makes sense. The best example are simple pharmacy style floor lamps like the one featured below. This simple addition to this vignette is doing more than just looking pretty, it’s actually a reliable light source for reading, particularly in these dark winter months, when it gets dark so early.
I inherited one from my parents when they moved homes and I vividly remember my mother placing a pair of them beside comfortable wing chairs in front of a large window in the family room of their Lake Bluff, Illinois home. Talk about dark winter afternoons…Just one or even a pair on either side of a sofa or daybed look so delicate. The best part about this floor lamp is that it’s easy to find a great replica of the original version at budget-friendly prices. We like this one below, right, from Lamps Plus.
