designing a master bedroom

We’re designing one of our favorite clients’ master bedroom at the moment and we’re excited to share the final design decisions with you. In terms of feeling and color palette, we were inspired by this Ruthie Sommers living room we featured on the blog a few months back. We loved the elegance of it and the splashes of pink velvet. Below are some of the fabrics we’ll be using in this room:featuredThis bed, by Thomas O’Brien for Hickory Chair, was one of our most favorite things we saw at High Point in October. If we could have any bed in the world, it would be this one. We love how it combines both masculine and feminine elements to suit both husband and wife. We’re pairing it with two grasscloth covered cube side tables and some gorgeous gourd lamps that compliment the blue and green ikat fabric (using for pillows) beautifully. bedandlampHere’s a close up of the headboard’s shape. We’re going to be customizing the nail heads to be more of an antique brass color to compliment the pair of stools that will be going at the foot of the bed. headboardshapeAnother close up of its great curves…headboarddetailOur client LOVES velvet (and who doesn’t) so in addition to a decorative pillow out of this super luxurious dusty rose-colored velvet, we’re also upholstering these very architectural stools in it. Pretty glam, no?stoolsAnd of course, every master bedroom needs a cozy chair to cuddle up and read a good book in. We’ll be playing around with the finish on the legs of these pieces because this isn’t the right color for this room, but you’ll have to wait for the finished room to see that! They’ll be upholstered  in the mini zig zag Lu Lu DK fabric you see below, right. chairandottomanSo now we’re looking for something fabulous to hang above the bed. Any ideas? We’re hesitant to do the whole sun burst mirror thing for fear it’s over and done with…

Love the ikat. Whose is it?

What color will the walls be? I wonder about a series of simple white plates in varying shapes hung in such a way to complement the fantastic headboard? would that be too busy? I love seeing what you all come up with. http://www.anneworthington.blogspot.com

It’s Carleton Varney! Oldie but goodie!

The walls are a very pale tan that was pre-existing before we got there. I love plates above beds, but not sure if this client would go for it.

Skip the sunburst mirror! Not so much that it is over and done with, but more that it feels a bit predictable. A cool triptych would be different …

Which fabric are you using for the headboard? What did you decide for the drawer pulls? I love artwork above a bed.

  • Lauren

The bed in the picture is actually exactly the one we’re using–the fabric is a grey-ish blue. Not sure yet on the pulls–think we will wait and see how it all looks it the room.

Love the velvet covering for the stools! Soft and luxurious!

Who makes the chair and ottoman? Thanks!
