searching for tv cabinets

Yesterday we shared some of the dining chairs we’re considering for Abby Larson’s new dining room. Today, we’re moving into the family room to talk about TV/media cabinet solutions. Originally, we had sketched this built-in, below, to go below the wall mounted TV. But after we priced out how much it was going to cost to build, it didn’t quite seem worth it, especially since Abby won’t be able to take it with her to her next home. That’s the only problem with built-ins–you can’t take them with you! So, we’re on to finding a piece of furniture that is approximately 60 inches wide and 18 inches deep that can occupy this space below the TV mostly to store her two little kiddie’s toys. Here’s a piece from  Zinc Door, the Bennett media center, that is quite nice and can be custom colored in just about any color of the rainbow.
We’ve used the Bungalow 5 Frances side tables before, but never their media console. We like this piece because it is covered in grasscloth which gives it some nice texture. It’s also painted Dove White, one of our favorite Benjamin Moore colors. The only forseeable problem with this piece is the open shelves–not the best for storing messy toys, but wonderful for displaying books and little accessories!

This World’s Away Werstler Limed Oak chest is a great piece and is definitely kid  proof, but still fun with the Greek key motif.

We’ve used this dresser in lots of client’s spaces–from bedrooms to dining rooms–and it always looks chic. 
While we would be  happy with any of the new pieces above, we sort of want to go vintage on this piece and purchase something like this Drexler Campaign chest (which is oddly almost exactly the same dimensions as our original drawing) from 1st Dibs. At this point in our purchasing for Abby, we’ve bought almost all of the custom and new pieces, so it might be nice to introduce a vintage piece like this in this space. Even an old pine dresser would be pretty here. 
We found this pair of campaign dressers, below, at the Salvation Army a few years ago and have painted them three times now. Here are two of their recent iterations:
