kitchen renovation: knobs vs pulls

Small details can make such a big difference in home renovations. While obsessing over paint colors, floor finishes and window treatments, often the hardware decisions are not given their due. Hardware = NOT an afterthought! We’re updating the kitchen in Abby Larson’s (of Style Me Pretty) lovely home at the moment, and looking forward to showing you the results. This week’s challenge? Choosing the right hardware for the newly painted kitchen cabinets.kitchenspullsAbby liked the idea of using vertical pulls instead of crescent pulls, but she wasn’t crazy about the knobs that were companions to that particular crescent collection. So we went back to the drawing board and found out that the vertical pulls conveniently come in three different sizes, 4″, 5″, and 6″.  Genius! We’re going to use the smallest 4″ on the small kitchen drawers that would otherwise use a small knob. crescent1Beautiful gold crescent hardware in the kitchens below…crescentpicsWe’re starting to think that knobs are over (unless you are going the crescent route where they are necessary for certain doors). But if we had it our way, we’d never put another knob on a kitchen cabinet. We’ve decided to use the Grafton pulls from Restoration Hardware in the polished nickel finish for Abby’s new kitchen.  If you’re in the market for new kitchen pulls (and boy can they make a difference even if they’re the only thing you’re changing in the space), here are our selects for favorite pulls: kitchenpullsTop: Omnia / Clockwise from top left: Restoration Hardware/Restoration Hardware/Baldwin/Shower Rods Etc (random website, great bamboo pulls!).
What do you think about knobs versus pulls? Are we ridiculous to say that knobs are over? Excited to show you a sneak peek of what Abby’s new cabinets look like later.

That’s the route we’re going too-We have such a variety of cabinets and drawers that mixing knobs and pulls would look too busy-so it’s going to be all pulls-Whenever I can
convince the hubby to splurge on them! For now we’re using painters tape as “pulls”

I love the ones that remind me of the love bracelet! Great find.

Love the bamboo pulls. I agree. Pulls will always look better than some eyeball knobs staring at you!

I agree, love the pulls that look like the love bracelet, what a nice touch!
