One of our favorite artists right now is Brooklyn based painter, Margret Neill. She has two very distinct types of work, one is colorful abstract paintings, and the other is large-scale graphite and charcoal on canvas pieces. At first glance, you wouldn’t think she was the creator behind the two different types of work, but that’s part of what makes her so interesting as an artist. Margaret’s work is all abstract and emerges from her engagement with her materials. It is not informed by a narrative or a specific image, but by the presence of “being in the fluidity of time.” Once you know the purpose behind her work, the two different “styles” make total sense. We love both styles of her work equally and are constantly suggesting her work to clients. Her graphite on canvas pieces are great for interiors that have a lot going on and just need a little texture and shape on the walls, while her paintings are bright and cheery and add a pop of color to a more sedate space.
