I discovered the work of photographer Larry Yust on a recent visit to Lumas art gallery in Soho (if you haven’t checked out Lumas yet it’s a must for anyone who loves art but can’t afford it!). The California artist travels around the world capturing some of the most iconic streets and landscapes in the world in his “Photographic Elevations.” Amazingly, each of his panoramas can be made up of anywhere from 10 to 100 images. His pieces are small in scale, most being 14 x 70 and 8 x 40 inches. A collection of photos from this series would look so cool hanging on the wall–even one makes such a cool impression. Volontaires, line #12. Yust did a whole series of Paris metro stops. I think these are probably my favorite.
Most of the pieces above range in price from five to eight hundred dollars. Lumas (13 store fronts and online) specializes in making the art market more accessible to young art collectors with photographic works starting at just $ 200– a real gold mine for young (and old!) people with tons of blank walls. They offer selected works from a roster of artists–up and coming and established–as hand-signed original photographs with limited editions ranging in number between 25 and 150 prints. – L
