weekend excursion: renegade craft fair

This weekend, we headed over to Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s McCarren Park to check out the annual Renegade Craft Fair. Renegade happens every summer, traveling to Brooklyn, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Chicago. This is where all the best crafters and DIYers from around the country (and the globe) come to show off and sell their wares. It was so invigorating to be surrounded by so many talented entrepreneurs—we are huge supporters of all things handmade. From clever purses made out of old books to some pretty hilarious greeting cards, our favorite finds really did run the gamut. Take a look at what we came across, and if you attended Renegade, let us know which crafters you loved!

jewelweeds4Jewelweeds is all about using sustainable materials to create beautiful things. Julia White, the founder and owner, makes some of the loveliest pieces using linen as a foundation. We fell in love with her linen tea napkins adorned with simple block prints. Her perfectly edited color palette of blue, green, and yellow against the oatmeal hue of the linen manages to be both sophisticated and whimsical .

mogoThese adorable passport covers are made by Boston-based Mogo Goods. How cute is the little paper airplane graphic?! At fourteen dollars a pop, these colorful little cases make it easy to catch the travel bug. We’re stocking up for our upcoming trip to Italy!

raeburninkWe fell for Raeburn Ink’s (booth pictured at the  top of the page) totes and pillows. Designer Jennifer Cooke (her line has been featured in New York Magazine, Lucky, and Nylon to name a few) used photographs from a trip to Japan to create some really unique printed pieces. We could see the pillows adding a great pop of color to any room. Lauren was especially crazy about the pink and orange printed pillow of Tokyo’s Shibuya district.
bookpursesLet’s get this out in the open before we go any further: we would never carry a handbag made out of an old book (or any book for that matter). However, we thought this idea was incredibly original, and we couldn’t not share Pretty Theory’s clever little purses. You never know, it could be the perfect gift for your quirky aunt.

meancardsWe got a real kick out of one designer’s hilariously sarcastic take on everything from friendship to aging to holidays with her line of “greeting cards” aptly named Mean Cards. There’s no way we could do justice to her dark (yet spot on) sense of humor, so please check them out for yourself after the jump. – S & L
