On one of our recent antiquing trips in Connecticut, I spotted an adorable vanity seat with a pale pink chenille top (below). I was smitten of course as I fall for all things girly hard and fast. Unfortunately, this little swivel bench wasn’t going anywhere at 450 dollars.
I didn’t forget about it though, and when we came across this 19th century, European-inspired iron bench (below) at the salvation army, I knew just what I wanted to do with it. Every girl dreams about having a vanity or dressing area that’s just for her. It’s just so relaxing to sit down and take your time with your makeup and hair when you’re getting ready to go out. Before painting, I made sure to clean off all of the dust and dirt from the piece. Because the wrought iron had just been sprayed once or twice with a gold spray paint, I didn’t need to sand or prime it.
A couple of coats of Glidden Pink Peony high gloss interior/exterior paint later, and we were in business! Once the paint dried we brought it into my bedroom and went about setting up the vanity. An old flea market desk with fantastic swirly legs and the requisite vanity essentials–perfumes, small standing mirror, vessels for hair accessories and makeup–and we were looking pretty good. – L

GREAT POST! i love the before and afters…so inspirational! I love your blog!
August 6, 2009 12:23 pmI’m pretty sure that bench isn’t from the 19th century… =) Also, is there a reason you didn’t go with spray paint? That’s usually my go-to when painting something intricate.
August 6, 2009 5:00 pmIt's "19th century, european-INSPIRED". And I think things like this look better when they are painted, as opposed to spray painted.

what is the paint color of the walls and the trim in this room?
The wall color is Benjamin Moore November Rain (one of our go-to neutrals- more grey than beige).
The trim is Benjamin Moore Linen White.
Happy Painting!
