wallpapering an entryway

Published on Mar 2nd, 2010 by goodbone

As I mentioned last week, I’ve become obsessed with wallpaper! I’m preparing to show samples to a client and her neighbor who share an entryway in an apartment building, so I’ve been looking at wallpapers non-stop for days!  I said this before, but you really can do lot of wallpaper research and purchasing online. F Schumacher has a terrific website with one of the most comprehensive and modern collections around. I’ve been collecting samples at different showrooms too, just because I like to be able to hang them up on the walls of our office while I ponder. I’ll even bring some double stick tape with me to the meeting, so we can look at them together in the space. Below are some of my inspiration photos, and further down on the page, you’ll see the samples I’m bringing to my meeting tomorrow afternoon. Please feel free to weigh in on your personal favorites. Thanks!
Clockwise from top left: Phillip Jeffries Ltd. advertisement, House Beautifulmagazine, Schumacher advertisement.
1. THIBAUT Corsico Square, 2. THIBAUT Cabo Raffia. Guess what? Both are vinyl coated. In a high-traffic area, washable is a nice feature. These are both great looking, 3. Farrow & Ball Papers 5 Collection uses colored grounds from their paints and hand blocked designs–so classic,  4. Schumacher grass cloth wallcovering. This is the quintessential chic wallcovering–very textural and beautiful.
5. We’re loving this F. Schumacher Imperial Trellis geometric. It’s so modern, and it comes in too many colors to choose from, 6. From Farrow & Ball, Lotus Papers from 19th century French archives. Which do you like best? – S & L

What beautiful choices! While grasscloth is a favorite of mine, I also really love Imperial Trellis.

They are all beautiful. I love the grasscloth, and the Farrow and Ball for its delicate print. Imperial Trellis is my favorite of the graphics. – Lydia

The trellis is classic, but for me, the Lotus takes my breath away! And though I love love love #3, if it were my home, I’d be worried about durability in a high traffic area. So probably #2 for the neutrals. Gorgeous choices, all!

Number 3-elegant and I don’t think it will look dated too quickly

I have always loved number 3- a classic- and though I thought I’d tire of Imperial Trellis, I continue to be drawn to it!

There is an townhouse on my street in Chicago that has the F. Schumacher Imperial Trellis in their front room–you can see it through the three glass French doors from the street and it is just stunning.

i vote #2 – durable, stylish and classic – can’t go wrong! i love imperial trellis, but so does everyone else; if you go with a print, i think the farrow & ball would be more fun and unique.

I vote for #4 — it’s beautiful, classic, always in style, and would brighten up an entryway, that I assume has no natural light. Of the graphics, I like #6 the best.

Of course I love the Imperial Trellis, but a paper w/texture rocks!!! I really like the grasscloth on one wall in a bedroom.

Hi! Can you tell me exactly which Schumacher grasscloth that is? I’m looking on the site and none of the choices I see are nearly that pretty. Thank you so much.

The Schumacher grass cloth – it is a sentimental favorite. My mom had grass cloth in our home and I remember how wonderful I thought the texture and the variations in color were.

I have burlap in my family room and raffia in my master bedroom and hand painted chinese murals on silk in my entry. I live in a modest tract home and these papers have brought so much warmth and elegance to our home.

I am always searching for new wallpapers to use for my placemats….think throw pillows for the table! I am currently using imperial trellis and am experimenting with F and B Bamboo and Lotus. I love custom work too. Nice to see to see others of similar mindset. Love your blog!

I love the Schumacher grasscloth and Imperial trellis. Did you try Phillip Jeffries. He makes a wonderful metallic grasscloth.

Love #3 in the first bunch and #1 in the second. I have sitting in my office the KWID trellis right now…received the order a couple of weeks ago, but have been busy with an installation. I can’t wait to hang!
