If you have been reading us for awhile now, then you know that I am obsessed with two things: sailor stripes and liberty prints. So, you can imagine how excited I was when Liberty of London announced its collaboration with Target. I was even more excited to find out they’d be opening a pop up store in Times Square. Unfortunately, when I got there on Friday afternoon the store was all boarded up–they had sold out of all of their stock in just a day and a half. Determined not to miss out, I hightailed it over to the Target in White Plains. I got there just in time, and took some pics of some of our favorite pieces. Get to your local Target store before it sells out!
Above, the lampshade we picked up. Doesn’t it just scream spring?
We weren’t crazy for any of the women’s clothes–the quality was not good in the non-cotton pieces. But there were some absolutely adorable kids clothes all done in cotton. There were some great bathing suits and sleepwear though.

I wanted this kid’s skirt in my size! The little smocked dresses were really sweet. Below, the best part of the Liberty collection was for the home. There were some really chic summer trays that were just begging for a couple of ice cold lemonades to be carried on them.
Great plates for outdoor parties. So feminine. I could see all of this stuff looking great in a first apartment.

Did any of you get a chance to check out the collection? What was your favorite Liberty piece? – L
I agree, the line is delightful! I picked up quite a few of the children’s items, bathing suits, skirts, maxi-dresses; I also thought the quilts were wonderful and would love to see the prints mixed for that lush, floral quintessentially English vibe.
March 15, 2010 1:11 pmOh honey, I had the most awful time with Target! I live in northern Maine, so I didn’t expect the nearest branch would get the whole line, but I did call beforehand to check that they would have something. I drove an hour to the store on Sunday morning (you know, the whole ‘in stores March 14′ thing) and found big banners, half-stocked shelves and promises that things would be in ‘on Tuesday. Come back Tuesday.’ So I drove another hour to the next store, and got nothing but blank stares from the Customer Service staff. Standing under the big advertising banners, they had ‘never heard of Liberty of London.’ It was all so frustrating and disappointing. So, grrrr, I have nothing good to say about Target. Winter has gone on for so long here, I could really have used an hour or two among cheerful florals! But I do like your lampshade in that photo at the top – so cute!
March 15, 2010 2:39 pmI was anticipating this line for months and it did not disappoint! I snagged a large platter– the black one pictured, but in the chair’s pattern– and a hot pink faux-lucite box. Oh, and a teeny tiny picture frame. They all look gorgeous!
March 15, 2010 3:09 pmI LOOOOVE the lingerie pieces and the notebooks! I had to refrain from buying a $5 notebook though……….
March 15, 2010 3:11 pmhaven’t checked it out as i’m spending the semester in europe but loving your finds! the trays and the undies are adorable.
March 15, 2010 3:24 pmI am embarrassed to say that I bought a large amount on Sunday morning. I went as far as to have the Target employees searching in the back room because not all of the items I had seen on the website were out on the floor and they admitted they hadn’t been able to find certain boxes. I ended up with both sets of bras and panties, a cotton scarf, the pajama set you have pictured above, a cotton sateen shift dress in pink, a bucket hat for gardening, a coated canvas wallet, the notecards, a watering can, some boxers for my husband and the two-tiered cupcake platter. I think I went a little crazy but I am so ready for spring and the florals were so lovely that I couldn’t help myself!
March 15, 2010 4:25 pmmmm…that chair! i am lusting a liberty of london wallet at the moment.
March 15, 2010 5:00 pmI ended up with dishes, trays, pillows, & dresses–I had been anticipating this since I first saw it mentioned months ago and was there at 8:00 a.m, but the Targets in the Rochester, NY, area didn’t even have most of the merchandise stock until later in the day/today. Unfortunately, none had the chairs, which look adorable!
March 15, 2010 7:29 pmI too was excitedly anticipating the Liberty of London Collection @ Target. I ADORE LIberty of London! I got to my local store at about 11am – I was disappointed – the employees were still unpacking cardboard boxes and the selection was not at all close to what I was expecting. Also the quality of the clothing was shockingly poor. I ended up purchasing 2 flower pots & some plastic dishes & bowls for summer dining (I love them). I really wanted the mugs that were advertised as part of the collection – but none could be found & the staff @Target didn’t have a clue if and when they would come in. I ended up going on-line and buying the mugs.
I believe the person in charge of Marketing @ Target really dropped the ball. There was no signage outside of the store except for a bunny decal donning a Liberty print. Also, it would have been great if they had set up a section in the center of the store dedicated only to Liberty. Instead there were dribs & drabs throughout. It really cheapened the products and concept. (They probably wanted customers to walk throughout the store so that they would buy more Target merchandise) A company like Liberty should be careful who they decide to partner with when they do a debut like this in the U.S. Or at least have a better handle to make sure everything is done right. (make sure to have enough product put on the shelfs when they tell the public it will be there & informed employees would help too)
Granted – a lot of items sold out because people love the Liberty designs but I believe Target really did a bad job with execution!!!! BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME
!!!!!!
So, so good. I’ve been making the rounds of Targets in my area since yesterday. Love the women’s cotton shift dresses (particularly the yellow print), the cotton scarves, the men’s ties, and the trays and other home items too. I think it’s the best collaboration Target has done. FYI, I’m using the fabric from the long scarves to make aprons for the servers at my wedding!
March 15, 2010 8:45 pmI am so thankful you reminded me of this. For some reason, I had NEXT weekend stuck in my mind for the release date.
I got a couple of swimsuits. They were really comfy and so cute! I of course wanted one of everything, as I blogged about, but had to reign it in!
I wanted that chair, but couldn’t find it. I hit up 3 Targets this evening…maybe I’ll get to a couple of more tomorrow
I think I’m more drawn to the housewear products. While in theory I love this fabric ,it reminds me of my Scottish Gran. I fear a top might look kinda frumpy. Children’s stuff is okay, though.
March 15, 2010 10:03 pmOkay, I was debating the lamp shade and seeing it in that photo, I know I have to have it!
March 15, 2010 10:21 pmWe don’t have Target here in Canada, but I love going there when I visit my brother in Houston. This line looks SO juicy! I love the black and white platter – reminds me of some of my own artwork.
March 16, 2010 6:02 amI got the rain boots and a couple other small things but the boots are definitely my favorite!
March 16, 2010 8:29 amSince we’re planning on moving soon, and don’t know what kind of space we’ll have to work with in downsizing from a home to an apartment, the housewares are off-limit for me now
And although I definitely agree with you on the poor quality of the non-cotton items, I gave into my love for the one-shoulder ruffled maxi. The cheap fabric is noticable to the touch, but I adore the cut and print, and knew the dress would be ideal for a photo-op-heavy bridal shower that I’ll be hosting in the early summer.
March 16, 2010 9:30 amI was very pleased with my score! See: http://chezlavie.blogspot.com/2010/03/liberty-of-london.html
March 16, 2010 9:48 amthe liberty home looks very good- and that bicycle, how fun. you can sign up on target..com to be notified when more product is back in stock…..
March 16, 2010 9:58 amI snapped up the yellow and black shift dress. I thought the quality of this piece was quite good–however, I do agree that the poly pieces were lacking. I also agree with another commenter–how great would it have been to see the entire collection in one space! I missed much of the home decor because I couldn’t find it. I am thinking about going back for the gift enclosure cards. I adore your lampshade–I looked for that one myself, but alas, they were out.
Overall, a great collection and Target continues to it it right!
March 16, 2010 11:51 amI was wondering if you had trouble fitting the lamp shade onto that base? Is it also Liberty? I tried 2 different bases and neither fit.
THANKS!!!!
we didn't have any trouble with ours!
March 16 2010 20:07 pmAlso, target.com didn’t have this merchandise at midnight (I just happened to be online, which I never am at that hour!) but by midday Sunday most items were “out of stock.” I got the impression they hadn’t sold out so much as they weren’t yet available. And I agree with all of the posters that Target really dropped the promotional ball–at the first store I went to on Sunday morning the saleswoman said she hadn’t even seen any of it. You had to be tenacious!
March 16, 2010 7:51 pmI went last night to the nearest Target and bought the lampshade pictured and the matching throw pillow for my sister’s nursery. My Target is in an area with a mixed bag socio-economic area, so they had TONS of Liberty stuff left!
March 17, 2010 9:45 amIt looks like I’m going to have to buy those red and white plates now. I’m in the need of a Target fix anyway. ;o)
March 18, 2010 4:44 pmYes! I just bought the most adorable peacock shirt – and a cute mug to have a work!
Posting your comment...

I bought a pillow in the peacock fabric– it has the most amazing acid green velvet backing. GOOD prices, too! Overall I was pretty happy with what they had– but our store didn’t have that lampshade, which I LOVE!
