Q: Hi GBGP Girls, First off, I really enjoy your blog! I mostly read interior design and fashion blogs and I love how GBGP merges the two. I love your taste in fashion: current but not trendy, unique but not contrived. For instance, I love the posts about Per Se/Carlisle, white nightgowns and dressing up for Suzanne’s birthday amongst many others. Nowhere else on the web can I find material like this! In the design department, the antiquing is sublime(!), the tutorial on chair types was really informative (more of this please!) and finally color theory posts are really helpful. Really, it’s the tiny nuances that make the room. This brings me to my main concern: would you advise that I paint my bedroom orange? It’s such a tricky color to paint with. I’ve rarely seen orange as wall paint save for the late 90s with the whole warm autumnal shade. I’m looking for a shade of orange (or any other color if orange is a bad idea) that’s bright, cheery, definitely unexpected and a bit warm. I get I plan on just painting the moldings and keeping the walls white. – Tracy

Q: I have a dilemma and am hoping you can point me in the right direction!  My family and I are moving out of the city (in 3 weeks!) to Riverside, CT and I need to buy furniture! My main concern now is for our children….they currently have built-ins for their clothes, but when we move I will need dressers.  I really don’t want to take the easy way out and just buy something from PB, so I’m wondering if you know of a store where I could find some interesting dressers for the boys. By the way, I absolutely love your site! – Cheryl

A: Cheryl, it’s a funny coincidence that you e-mailed us about unique dressers because we just came across some great ones in Red Hook, NY this past weekend at Hoffman’s Barn Sale. If you’re looking to keep your search confined to Connecticut, there are plenty of great resources there too. Try Braswell Galleries in Stamford and Norwalk, The Antique and Artisans Center in Stamford, the Connecticut Antiques Center also in Stamford, and Consign it in Greenwich. These places are all great, but you won’t find prices like Hoffman’s there. All of the chest-of-drawers below are from Hoffman’s. Good luck! – S

Q:  Hi ladies. I just found your blog when I googled Swedish furniture and I found your reference to Lone Ranger Antiques. Unfortunately I just missed the  MA antique fair (although I think the next one is in September).  I am searching for a round 40″-44″ dining table for my kitchen. I really liked the one on Lone Ranger, although I have never bought any furniture without seeing it before.  What did you think of the quality?  Should I wait for the Sept MA fair and look at the pieces then?  Also, I was quoted a price of $1500 for the table, which seems high to me….then again I just purchased my first house and am new to furniture shopping. – Elizabeth

A: Elizabeth, we can’t say enough good things about the Lone Ranger, and compared to many other Swedish dealers of his caliber, his pieces are very well priced (and they really are from Sweden!). 1500 is a very fair price for the type and size of the table you are looking at. You should check out 1stdibs.com to see other Swedish dealers who are selling similar tables, but I’m guessing they will be much more expensive. Tell Ranger we say hi! – S

Q: I am looking for some help in pricing a bedroom set made by Kroehler Co.  It is in very good condition but the nightstands do have so scratches.  The dresser and the headboard are in very good condition.  I am trying to sell this for a friend of mine whose mother-in-law had to be moved into the an assisted living home.  I want to try to get as much as i can for her expenses but do want to sell it.  I have attached a couple pictures.  I hope you can help me.  Thanks in advance. – Debbie



A: These pieces are in great condition.  You can probably use some MinWax on the scratches to help minimize their appearance.  I’m not an expert, but I’d put them on sale for $300 each for the nightstands and maybe $400 for the headboard. Craigslist.com is the best vehicle for selling something like this. – S
