One of our favorite mother-daughter duo’s is Jane and Judy Aldridge from the fabulous blogs Sea of Shoes and Atlantis Home, respectively. Hailing from Trophy Club, Texas, these ladies share a passion for drama in both their interiors and their wardrobes. Judy (the mom) recently moved into a new home and we just had to share some of her preliminary designs. Below, her dining room with a Warren Platner-esque dining table and some pretty crazy upholstered chairs.

One of our favorite custom furniture makers comes out of Charlotte, North Carolina and is run by the interior design duo Lindsey Coral Harper and Maggie Currey. The Lamshop pieces with their Asian influence and lacquered finishes feel very fresh and very right now. We’re especially crazy about the Ming faux-finish side table in malachite. guilty to get-able: serge roche inspired mirror

We fell in love with a mirror at last year’s Albert Hadley auction at Sotheby’s that neither of us have been able to get out of our heads since. It was a white composite mirror in the style of Serge Roche, the French designer from the 1930′s. Lucky for us (and you!) we happened upon a fantastic reproduction of this piece over at Ballard Designs for just $199. Now we just need some blank wall space! Another week, another dose of our top furniture finds on eBay! Here’s a great Dorothy Draper style three-drawer dresser with a current bid of $305. This piece is the definition of versatile and would look great in a small entryway with a mirror above, next to a bed, or even as a make-shift bar in a dining room.

I have a thing for colorful oriental style lamps. With the right shade these could be really elegant in an eclectic-style living room. I love how the flowers jump off the black background. You can buy the pair for $59.99 now.

These mid century modern slipper chairs are a great example of the classic slipper chair made famous by Billy Baldwin. Recovered in a great ikat or suzani and these chairs could be the foundation pieces of a living room. Buy it now price of $975.

We both love gate leg tables, especially ones with scroll legs. This one has a gorgeous wood patina and looks to be in really great shape. Gate leg tables are the perfect dining solution for any small space as they fold up into a console table when not in use. Buy it now price is $495.

Here are a nice pair of French chairs that are part bergere part barrel-back. Some might be able to make these upholstery work, but we would recommend reupholstering them. These chairs have really lovely proportions. Buy it now price is $488. – L

Traditional Beni Ouarain wool rugs have become as ubiquitous and classic as the George Smith sofa in high end homes across the globe. There’s no denying these Moroccan rugs made by the Beni Ouarian tribe are a fantastic and chic way to ground a room. Only problem is that they cost an absolute fortune! Even a small 5 by 7 can run you anywhere from three to six thousand dollars. So, for those of us who love the look but can’t get our hands on an original, Anthropologie has come to the rescue with a pretty great interpretation. Below, a room featured on the cover of this month’s Elle Decor UK which boasts both a Beni Ouarian rug AND a George Smith sofa!

eBay finds of the week

Over the weekend we drove up to Hudson, NY to pick up a Dorothy Draper dresser that we bought off of eBay last week through a great little store called Colonia. The owner, Robin, has such a great eye we ended up leaving her store with not just the dresser but with a great leopard-print painted mirror ($30) and a sweet scalloped-edge side table ($170) as well (we’ll share those later when they find their respective homes). But on to this week’s best eBay finds. We’re loving this set of four faux bamboo Hollywood Regency chairs. How great would they look around a small, round kitchen table?

I found this fantastic pair of 1960′s stools with their original fabric. How great is this fabric? I mean, seriously?! If I had room I would scoop these up in a heartbeat. Starting bid is $499.

We love this blue crackle glaze Stiffel table lamp. And the starting bid of $175 can’t be beat.

This vintage McGuire web back chair would make a fab desk or vanity chair with a new cushion or even a nice occasional chair in your living room. Starting bid is $135 for this piece. Happy hunting!

what’s new at the nyigf

We just got back from our second day at the New York International Gift Fair and have lots of exciting things to share with you. If there was one theme of this show it was COLOR. Everyone seems to really be embracing it this season and that makes us happy! Want to know what else makes us happy?! Getting to hold our book for the first time! We stopped by the Abrams booth to find our real, live book sitting on the shelf. What a thrill! We can’t wait to share it with all of you when it hits stores on May 1st (Good Bones, Great Pieces: The Seven Essential Pieces That Will Carry You Through a Lifetime is available for pre-order now on Amazon).

But back to the Gift Fair. The NYIGF is where all of the best home design, gift, craft, and accessory companies come to show off their product for the coming season. Everyone from store owners to interior designers to Joan Rivers (we saw her in the parking lot!) attend. It’s a great way to see what’s new in the retail world as well as get inspired for Spring. Below are a great collection of butterfly prints by Missouri art company, Longstreet Collection.

These pillows by Lance Wovens are so fun. They’re perfect for a bench on your porch or for a backyard BBQ. Love the purple and brown color combo.
Jamie Young had some great new shades for Spring. This blown up tangerine floral one looked great paired with this blue, faux glass bottle lamp.

Bungalow 5 had some of the best new items, particularly in the accessories and lamps. We are dying to use their 50′s oriental, uber-feminine vases for something.

trendspotter: hoofing it

One of our favorite home trends right now are horse hoof stools (made of wood, of course!). These stools have been made for decades, but they’ve become quite popular in the past few years, popping up in contemporary interiors in all of the major shelter mags. They are a favorite of interior designer Celerie Kemble whose gorgeous room is below. We love how this stool brings an eclectic feeling to such a feminine bedroom. new collection by liz o’brien

One of our favorite decorative-arts dealers, Liz O’Brien, has recently launched her own line of furniture and accessories inspired by all of the beautiful pieces O’Brien has seen and found over her career. Her line, Liz O’Brien Editions, was influenced by legendary tastemakers from Babe Paley to Syrie Maugham. We’d love to get our hands on any one of her gorgeous jewel-tone dressed love seats or fabric-wrapped tables. Of the Pamela Settee, below, O’Brien says, “Inspired by the style of 1930s cafe society, this graceful beauty harkens to another time yet fits in a contemporary interior.” A piece like this could be the start of a truly inspired room.
